I have heard people say, “Homeopathy isn’t for me. I tried a homeopathic remedy, and it didn’t work.”
When I was younger, I wondered a lot about that. I grew up in a family that used homeopathy from a young age; my adopted grandmother first introduced me to homeopathy. I saw how it worked in my family and friends, and now in my clients. And I thought it might be time to share: a homeopath’s perspective on why a remedy might not seem to work.
First of all, the homeopathic perspective is very different from conventional medicine—it views health as a dynamic balance of mental, emotional, and physical states, and healing as a deeply individualized journey. So when a remedy “doesn’t work,” it’s often not about failure, but about refining the process.
Why a Homeopathic Remedy Might Not Work (According to a Homeopath)
1. The Remedy Wasn’t the Right Match (“Simillimum”)
Homeopathy is based on the principle of “like cures like”—but it must be very well matched to your specific symptom picture, including your personality, preferences, emotional state, and the unique way you experience your condition. If the chosen remedy isn’t close enough to your “energetic pattern,” it won’t stimulate healing.
Example: Two people with migraines may need entirely different remedies—one might be a Natrum Muriaticum type (reserved, grief-focused), while another might need Belladonna (fiery, sudden, intense symptoms).
This may takes time, especially in complex cases where mold toxicity is at play, as often opening detox pathways are needed for well chosen remedies to help.
2. Wrong Potency or Dose
Different potencies (6C, 30C, 200C, etc.) affect people differently. A remedy may be “right,” but if it’s:
– too high for a sensitive person
– too low for someone needing a stronger energetic nudge
The remedy might not act.
With dosing, some people need a single dose and then to wait. Others may need repeated dosing over time.
Muscle testing is a great tool to help figure this out.
3. Suppressed Symptoms or Medication Interference
If someone has taken strong medications for a long time (like steroids, antidepressants, or antibiotics), those can suppress the vital force and make it harder for the remedy to act. This doesn’t mean homeopathy won’t work—it just might take longer or require deeper layers to be addressed first.
As a homeopath, I would probably start with a gentle “clearing” remedy or organ support to prepare the body for deeper healing
4. Emotional Blocks
Sometimes a person isn’t ready to heal. Homeopathy recognizes that healing isn’t just physical—it involves processing trauma, letting go of patterns, and sometimes shifting identity. If there’s resistance at a subconscious level, the remedy might not take hold.
- Remedies like Ignatia, Staphysagria, or Aurum might be used to address these blocks.
5. Aggravation Misunderstood as “Not Working”
In some cases, the remedy actually is working, but it starts by intensifying symptoms temporarily—a healing reaction known as a homeopathic aggravation.
I like to call this retracing. The body is going back to properly heal, what has been suppressed in the past: either by emotions, trauma or medication. Its like a herx reaction; it gets worse before it gets better.
That being said, this should be a temporary state (no longer than 7 days). Please do be in communication with your homeopath, as often a different remedy is needed and bring resolution.

6. Not Enough Time
Homeopathy often works in layers, especially with chronic issues. If someone expects overnight results, they may lose faith before real healing begins. True homeopathic healing often involves a gradual unraveling of the condition over weeks or even months. It was told me by a mentor that it may take at least a month of homeopathic treatment for every year that a person has been dealing with a specific symptom.
Healing is a Journey,
Not a Quick Fix

From a homeopath’s perspective, if a remedy doesn’t seem to work, it’s an invitation to look deeper—not to give up.
As a homeopath, I would look at:
- Revisiting the case with a fine-tooth comb- what was missed?
- Checking to see if all detox pathways are open
- Shifting the potency or dosing schedule
- Changing the remedy
- Supporting the person through an emotional layer first
- Clearing toxic blocks
- Trying a different method of homeopathy
- Evaluating lifestyle choices
So don’t be quick to give up on homeopathy. It is a beautiful system of natural medicine that God has given us to work with.
In this world, there are so many toxins around us and I find that new approaches and detoxing are needed, especially here in America, to gain the resolution of health symptoms that are wanted.
