Self-treatment vs professional homeopathic care – Part 2
Homeopathic self-treatment is easier than ever before, especially with local grocery stores like Sprouts, Lassens, and Whole Foods carrying homeopathic remedies. But when do you need to seek out professional homeopathic care?
Most people with a homeopathy kit and a basic knowledge of remedies can treat their family for first aid issues. But with symptoms that linger on, are recurrent on a regular basis, or autoimmune diseases, it is best to see a professional homeopath.
Chronic health problems don’t go away overnight; it’s a process. The best way to view a homeopath is as a coach; a person with experience, practical knowledge, and compassion to help you achieve your goals. Getting better from eczema, autism, thyroid issues, long covid and autoimmune diseases is a journey. So let’s jump in and cover the 4 main reasons you should see a homeopath instead of trying to treat yourself, along with talking about seeing a homeopath in person vs online.
Four Reasons you should see a Homeopath
- Access to exclusive resources
I sat across the desk, watching my homeopath type away on her computer. In my 13 year old brain, I wondered what in the world she would come up with in order to help me focus on my studies. Grandma W (as I affectionately called her) turned around and with a big smile announced, “I found your remedy! But its not available here in the US, so I will order it from Germany for you. It should be here in a few weeks.” I was so grateful. I was willing to take anything to get rid of this perpetual brain fog and massive headaches that kept me from studying.
This happened to me, when I was 13. My mom concerned about my weekly, sometimes daily migraines and brain fog, had taken me to see a homeopath. My mom had tried a lot of things, but nothing was helping.
Grandma W, my homeopath, at the time, was able to order a remedy from out of the country and it really helped me.
As a professional homeopath, my mom and I can order unusual remedies and remedies in high potencies from pharmacies all around the world. Having a certification of studying homeopathy, we have access to specialized remedies and potencies to help our clients heal. There are over 6,000 homeopathic remedies available worldwide. Yes, most people are helped with the same 150-300 remedies, but sometimes in tricky cases and in long covid, different remedies are needed to bring complete healing to your body.
As a homeopathic practitioner, I have found that all the hundreds of hours of clinic I went through getting my certificate in homeopathy have paid off. I can find the remedy faster and more efficiently with muscle testing. Like any tool, the more one uses it, the more efficient and accurate the results. Muscle testing was a skill I learned in high school and it has taken me about 9 years to hone that skill and use it most effectively with my clients.
2. Gain a new perspective
When I was in my twenties, I sought homeopathic treatment for severe brain fog. I couldn’t figure out what was causing it. After sitting down with the homeopath for an hour, she shared with me what she saw. In my sharing my story, I had monthly migraines but then also daily headaches of low-level pain. Its no wonder you have brain fog, your head is hurting, and your body is compensating by slowing you down so you can become aware of the head pain and do something about it. She talked to me about the need to change my diet, increase my water intake along with giving me a homeopathic remedy.
Until she had mentioned it, I hadn’t connected my headaches to my inability to focus or my lack of drinking water. Having another health professional see my issues and give her feedback, made the difference and set me on the road to resolve my headaches.
3. Take the guesswork out
Homeopaths have put a lot of time in studying the art and science of homeopathy. Hundreds of hours of clinical work are required by many school before you can graduate. This knowledge and training help a homeopath to pinpoint what remedy is needed.
Personal story: I had to have 4 non-surgical gum treatments for periodontal disease. I was a bit nervous at the time as anytime I got dental work done, I would get sick. (At the time, I was in the middle of my studies to become a homeopath.) The first 2 treatments went well, but after my 3rd treatment, I developed this constant clear dripping from my nose that happened morning and evening. I thought “I can treat myself; this looks like spring allergies. I will just take Allergena morning and evening and it will go away.” The problem was: it didn’t.
I gave it time about 3 weeks, and when it didn’t go away and was getting more annoying and interfering with my sleep, I decided to contact my homeopath. (yes, homeopaths go to other homeopaths for help 😊). I went and a few minutes into my explanation, she told me, “You are having a reaction to all the infection that was drained from your gums, and this is the remedy that you need to take. She gave me a dose during the appointment. An hour later, all the symptoms I had been experiencing for the last few weeks disappeared.
My point is that getting another perspective is key. My homeopath saw what I couldn’t see and with one dose of a remedy, all my symptoms were cleared up. I could have keep on taking the Allergena. It wasn’t hurting me and would take away my symptoms temporarily for a few hours before they would come back. But it wasn’t until I saw my homeopath, had her take my case that I got lasting relief.
4. Accountability & encouragement
We all need encouragement. Dealing with chronic health problems and trying to get better is like unraveling a ball of tangled yarn. It can be so frustrating at times.
In my life, seeing a homeopath helped me get through a few difficult years after a series of multiple head injuries and mold exposure. Focusing for several years was near impossible, spelling was challenging, and I struggled to write a to-do list for each day. My homeopath set mini goals each month and gave me remedies to help me each month reach my goals. Some months I surpassed my goals, while the next few months I went backwards. It was her encouragement to hang in, to not give up that saw me through and after two years of treatment, my headaches were gone, I could spell again and calendar out my life a week at a time! Having her presence and encouragement gave me the courage to push through the rough seasons and let my body completely heal.
Bonus: in-person vs online homeopathic treatment?
Is there a difference between online and homeopathic treatment in-person?
The benefits of getting online care:
-not limited to local availability
-no travel required
-the ability to do it at home
-you have more options of different homeopathy methods to try
The only difference I have found with in-person appointments that it is easier to build connection and rapport in the professional relationship. There is nothing so far that can replace in person connection. You can build that connection online or over the phone, but it can take more time.
Having worked with four homeopaths over the years, three in person and one over the phone, I found that it was more the quality and method that made the difference over being in-person vs online. The homeopath that lived in a different state and who I never met, helped me more in two years, than a local homeopath had done in eight years. Method does make the difference!
