When can I use homeopathy to treat myself?

“Can’t I treat myself & why do I need to see a homeopath?” This is the vibe I get more and more from the several Facebook groups that I am part of. Ever since the Covid pandemic of 2020 that shut our world down, interest in homeopathy has skyrocketed leading many to explore this system of medicine. People have lost faith in the current medical system and are wanting to heal themselves. I’m so excited as each person needs to take responsibility for their own health and homeopathy is such a good way to start!

In these first post of this series, we will talk about: when you can treat an issue yourself versus seeing a homeopath. In next post, we will go over the benefits of seeing a homeopath.

When can I use homeopathy to treat myself?

The Short answer: in acute situations

Let me explain:

  1. In an acute situation.

So what is an acute situation? An acute situation is one that comes on suddenly, does not happen consistently, and lasts less than 3 weeks.

Let me give some examples of acute situations.

  • You have been pulling weeds all day in the garden and now your back is aching. You go to bed and in the morning, you can’t bend over without pain.
  • Your 2 year daughter fell off the bed and banged her head. She isn’t hurt but is screaming and just wants to be held.
  • You did a new exercise routine at the gym, and now your body aches all over.
  • Your child picked up a cold from a friend and is spreading it in the family.
  • You developed stomach pain after eating, and its never happened before.
  • Your infant had to get a tongue tie procedure done, and now screams when you do the doctor’s recommended tongue exercises.
  • You were out in the sun too long a week ago, and now get headaches every afternoon.

The list could go on and on.

2. No access to a homeopath

Before covid, this was true. I only knew of a few good homeopaths, two in my area and one out of state. All had waiting lists and I couldn’t get in right away. This is where having a basic knowledge of homeopathy is very helpful as I can use arnica, aconite and other first aid type of remedies to treat my problems till I could see my homeopath.

Now, there are so many homeopaths out there. There is Homeopathy 24/7; a website where professional homeopaths are on call 24/7. I personally have not used their services but have heard great reviews from other people.

The issue now is: finding a homeopath that uses a method of homeopathy that works for you. Each person is different and different methods or combinations of methods are needed. Homeopathy is a SYSTEM of medicine, that can be used in a variety of methods.

Here are a few methods that I have come across:

  • Classical homeopathy
  • Practical homeopathy
  • Modern homeopathy
  • Banerji Protocols

I’m not going to go into the different methods now but will write another post on it later as it as a large subject.

3. Limited finances

I understand. Money can be tight at times, especially in this economy at the moment. But before you write off seeing a homeopath, I would ask yourself this question:

  • Is my current issue keeping me from making money or performing at my job? In other words, is my health keeping me from increasing my income?

Stop and think about it. If your health issue is keeping you from performing well at work and limiting your income, homeopathic care may be what you need to get out of the rut so you can earn more.

Before you give up on working with a homeopath or getting good homeopathic care, here are some ideas to mull over:

#1 Inexpensive Resources

There are some great inexpensive resources that you can use to help figure out what homeopathic remedy is best for you. A lot of health issues are simple and choosing a good remedy (or combination) can make a huge difference in your quality of life. These are resources that I have personally used and found very helpful for my family, even when I was studying homeopathy.

Katie Cunha came out with a new course called: “Integrative Homeopathy” If you prefer videos over reading, I would get her course.

Disclaimer: I don’t receive any compensation from sharing these resources. I’m simply sharing what I used in my journey of studying homeopathy.

#2 Low-cost care with limited follow up

If you would like to be seen by a homeopath, I would look into being a practice client for a homeopathy school. Most schools run low-cost clinics that are open to the public for their students to get the clinical experience needed to graduate. The school I went to offered care for $75; some school are less.

Downside: you get what you pay for and follow up is limited or non-existent. And with chronic issues (health problems you have been struggling with for longer than a few months), follow up is key in the homeopathic process.

#3 Look into Health Saving Accounts

When I was working as a reading tutor, my company offered along with health insurance, health saving accounts such as HSA, FSA or HRA. It’s different with each company, so I would check with your employer.

DISCLAIMER: not all types of health saving accounts cover homeopathic care!!!!

Be sure to research and see what services are covered as they’re different with each one.

When I worked with the school district, the type of health saving account I had covered my appointment with a local homeopath, but as it was a few years ago, don’t take my word for it and please do some research.

If homeopathic care isn’t covered by your health saving account, there are lots of everyday items that are covered by these accounts. Take the money you would spend on those items and set it aside to save for homeopathic care.

#4 View it as a personal investment

Due to an injury that damaged my shoulder, I had to take almost a year off from working. I had known that I would have to do this, so I had been setting money aside. I threw myself into getting better. I saw a neuromuscular specialist and did two types of Pilates. But still my shoulder wouldn’t heal. The doctor was puzzled as there was no reason it shouldn’t be healing, that’s when I was recommended to do occupational therapy.

In my search for an OT, I met an occupational therapist who was also a homeopath. Originally, I was just going to see her for OT therapy, as I couldn’t carry anything in my left hand or raise my arm above my head. But I decided to pay the extra fee and do homeopathy along with the OT. I did occupational therapy and homeopathy over 7 months. I learned so much from the homeopath/OT. She taught me that my unstable emotions were keeping my body from fully healing, and how keeping my emotions in line would release my body to heal.

The results were incredible. When I started, I couldn’t carry anything in my left hand without triggering pain, or lift my left hand over my head. I was unable to stand straight and was emotionally unstable.

At the end of 7 months, my left arm was back to normal. I could move it with weight over my head, stand straight and my emotions weren’t controlling my decisions anymore. Homeopathy made the difference. It helped me build the confidence emotionally that I need along with the confidence in the healing of my shoulder. That alone was worth the two thousand dollars it cost me, as I wouldn’t have been able to do confidently what I am today: a homeopath.

Homeopathy can do that for you.

Wrapping it up

You are worth the investment. Your body is capable of healing. What’s holding you back?
